In-The-Canal (ITC)

Hearing aids are slightly larger than completely-in-the canal aids but smaller than in-the-ear aids. They are still cosmetically appealing, and their increased size allows for slightly larger electronic components. They are also available with conventional, programmable analog, or digital technology.

Pros

  • They are cosmetically more appealing than in-the-ear aids.
  • Since the speaker part is close to the eardrum, there is a volume advantage.
  • These may allow for directional microphones depending on the size of the ear canal.
  • Having the microphone part in your ear more closely resembles natural hearing.

Cons

  • They are only appropriate for mild to moderate hearing losses.
  • Because they are small, they require good dexterity and eyesight to deal with them.
  • If they have a volume control, it may be difficult to adjust because of its small size.
  • They are more susceptible to problems from earwax build up.
